"Deu Sex Bellatrix" 2025
83 x 42 x 45 inches
Mixed media with carved wood

"Deu Sex Bellatrix" is a play on Latin words (Deus Ex Bellatrix) meaning, "God of the Female Warrior." White nordic runes, spiritually and ritualistically cover portions of one of the torsos and faces of the Siamese twin mermaid. Each symbolizes necessity, protection, transformation, and the warrior. Various additional Mayan codex symbols adorn her, the largest on her back is the snake: rebirth/renewal/vehicle for crossing the universe, while that of her Victorian counterpart is of a figure (modified into female) clutching the rune staff symbol of protection. This Japanese Irezumi tattoo-like image is mimicked by her own golden Midas hand poisedly holding the same Trident symbol behind her back.

Mannequins originally created for displaying fashion garments upon "ideal" female bodies are strategically devastated by rough-bored holes at sensitive perceptual areas of the human body such as eyes, ear, heart, mind, etc. exposing cavities rendered as empty interiors of each fiberglass doll.

In many traditions, the mermaid represents a mythical creature capable of luring seamen to their demise; they represent rebellion and freedom. Deu Sex Bellatrix, as a conjoined mermaid, weds yin (the feminine passive principle in nature) and animus (masculine part of a female's personality) synchronized in balance – as Barbarella and The Black Queen of Sogo brought together after being inside a weaponized Orgasmatron.

Considering such metaphors, among others, I conjure female powers to emerge, to eradicate men and male dominance (in the most alluringly destructive ways possible); claiming the age of Aquarius to recreate humanity in the image of woman this time instead.

Deu Sex Bellatrix is a collage of imagery from across the globe and across time made tangible to envision another possible past/present/future long overdue.

UNSPOKEN EMERGENCE
WORKS BY A COLLECTION OF ARTISTS

"This exhibition doesn’t shy away from the intricacies of the human experience. Instead, it embraces the entire range of emotions—grief, awe, fragility, ecstasy—and demonstrates how these states mirror the cyclical patterns of the natural world. The desire to create becomes an act of translation, where inner thoughts are manifested through artistic expression."
